Transformations
By restoring and revitalizing the cultural, educational, and ecological spaces of Kreta Ayer’s glorious past with the current trends in urban development and tourism, Singapore will have its own unique theatre district built on heritage that reaches more users and visitors than its current state as “Chinatown”.
It will decentralize and expand the current compact tourism block consisting of a few streets to a larger area and help generate the night economy for the neighborhood and businesses.
Not only can this new eco-cultural district attract cultural tourists from all over the world, but it can also provide the residents of the immediate area (especially in HDB estates) and of Singapore with new interest points, leisure activities, and public spaces.
